The annual Finnish Championships in tango dance is held during the Tango festival in Seinäjoki. The competition starts at Saturday 12.7. at 12pm.
The host of the competition is Mika Väkiparta. The leader of the competition is Niina Tammelin.
Participation
The competition is open for all dancers. The idea of the competition is to dance free style tango to tango music the dancers do not know in advance. Participation fee in the competition is 10€/dancer.
There are two divisions one can attend to – general and senior. The general division is open for everyone, whereas in senior division the leader has to be over 60 years old and the follower over 50 years old.
We recommend to sign up for the competition in advance with the website form. If it is not possible to use the website form you can also sign up at the information desk located at Tanssitalo. The sign up will be closed at 9am at the competition day.
Competition day schedule
- 9.00 am – sign up is closed
- 10.00am – competitor numbers can be picked up at Tanssitalo at dance camp info.
- 11.00am – warm-up space will be opened
- 12.00pm – competition starts
- 15.30pm – award ceremony and show time of the winners
Awards
From both divisions the three best will be rewarded with a diploma and a trophy. The three best will be given prizes donated by Suomen Tanssipuoti and entrance for the Tango festival 2026 donated by Seinäjoen Tangomarkkinat. In addition Magazine Hymy is donating two gift certificates valued 200€ each.

Jack & Jill
Jack & Jill –competition is held on Saturday 12.7. at 4pm at Tanssitalo (Seinäjoen Urheilutalo). The competition has one category and is open to everyone, but the number of participants is limited for scheduling reasons. The competition is free of charge.
Participants will dance freely led tango to music that is not announced in advance. The dance style is open, but the dance must be based on leading and following, with clearly maintained roles throughout the dance. A closed dance hold must be maintained, though positions within the hold may vary. Dancers are expected to follow the general floor etiquette familiar from Finnish social dance floors.
